This project aims to quantify and qualify the effects of Overhead Low Pressure (OHLP) irrigation systems. The Evaluating Alternative Irrigation trial is  monitoring the impact of OHLP on:

• Green cane trash blanketing (GCTB)
• Legume fallow
• Nutrient Management
• Irrigation Scheduling

Improved irrigation management is fundamental in the transition toward improved farming systems in the Burdekin. There is currently little local information demonstrating irrigation systems other than furrow that will deliver equivalent production levels in a time efficient and cost effective manner.

The project is funded by the Sugar Research and Development Corporation and The Hesp Farming Co.

Funding for this project through Burdekin Dry Tropics NRM and the Australian Government's Natural Heritage Fund has now finished.
