I have completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in Environmental Health and have worked in a variety of Environmental Health positions across Queensland based in Local Government for the past 15 years. I am currently the Manager of Environmental Health at Burdekin Shire Council. I have been a representative on the Burnett Mary NRM LG NRM advisory committee, Woongarra Marine Park Monitoring and Education Project, and currently Burdekin Dry Tropics Pest Management Steering Group. Coming from a grazing and cropping background in western and central Queensland, I have always had a keen interest in the environment and in particular trying to help primary producers to improve their practices and gain recognition for the positive changes they are making to their business and in turn the environment.

Born 5/12/46 Home Hill hospital and moved with my parents to the family property Glenyarra. Inkerman in January 1948. My primary school days were spent at Inkerman and later to Junior Standard at Thornborough Charters Towers. Upon leaving College my lifetime experience in the grazing industry started on the family property of which I still own a portion. It was the disastrous drought year of 1969 that the family purchased Braceborough, Balfes Creek which I managed and later purchased. Additional properties were purchased with family members from time to time in the Charters Towers area. It was during this time that I realised the advantage of cattle self mustering methods and cattle yards of my own design using steel cables and portable panels. The advantages of blade ploughs was realised during a short stay in the Middle Mount area. Of later years I have joined the local NRM groups of BBIFMAC, Landcare and Greening Australia and have enjoyed working with them mainly in the fight to eradicate feral weeds. |
